In Linux world you'll find lots of people with very strong opinions. I recommend you ignore them and focus on your product and how you want it to be. From the screenshot, it looks awesome and I encourage the devs to keep going. It's looking very promising.

Libadwaita and macOS apps look kinda similar, so I’d say Libadwaita is the way to go. And if themes are the main problem, we could just do what Ghostty did.

I appreciate everyone chiming in with suggestions how to help reduce our dev load. Just getting Orion for Linux out of the door, in any shape or form, will be a miracle on itself, given that we are literally developing it from scratch (we can not reuse any code/UI from Mac) and all that with a tiny team that has so many other balls to juggle. Constructive feedback welcome!

Vlad I think there’s a misconception that you are just forking Epiphany but my understanding is that this is completely from scratch built around WebKitGTK. A monumental task, indeed.

Vlad As someone who has done dev work both directly and/or running projects for 3+ decades on Linux, I can appreciate the effort it takes. I am excited to see what you guys put out. We can worry about the little things down the road. Will be upping my current Kagi sub in support of the effort for now and get the Orion+ down the road when I can start testing it out.

I've been a long time Kagi user (since June of 2023!) and have been using Orion on iOS for about a year now (specifically was able to move to iOS devices because of the added ad-blocking your team has made available through Orion, in addition to adding the Web Extension code changes and such. Can't thank you all enough for that)

I am nothing but enthralled with what has come out of supporting both Kagi and Orion, and I am very much looking forward to using Orion for Linux as my daily driver in the near future. The work here looks amazing, and it's really clear you and the team are busting ass on this project. Browser landscape diversity is a must in the fight against enshittification and I'm so happy to see such good progress coming out on this.

Congrats to 3 years, here's to the next 3! Cheers! 🍻

Vlad Congrats on 3 years! I recently discovered Kagi, and I'll never be able to go back to any other search engine.

I've been looking for exactly what this browser is for the last few years. The work done so far looks absolutely amazing, I'm looking forward to using it. I'll definitely be getting Orion+ as soon as this browser launches!

For me, if Orion becomes available for Linux, it will instantly justify a lifetime purchase of Orion+.

On MacOS/iOS only, I don't find it that much useful compared to Safari.
But having the same browser + sync on my MacOS/iOS AND Linux devices will be valuable.

Hi, the work being done looks amazing. Gnome Web, another Linux browser made with Libadwaita, switches to a more mobile-friendly view on smaller screen sizes. The mobile Linux space is still very young, so it is understandable if a mobile view is out of the scope for Orion on Linux, especially at this early stage, but will a more dynamic UI with support for smaller screens be considered?

dan-berg-pub It might look a bit pricey at first glance. $5 a month adds up fast. It's a worthwhile investment IMO if it means speeding up the process. I can't even imagine how complicated a browser like this will be to make. Just having a nice UI is difficult and that's just appearance. Hah, imagine trying to clean build this thing in the future with something like yay. Would you like to place bets now the required RAM to be somewhere in the 60GiB's? All support that can be offered is most welcome.

Vlad I've purchased Orion+ a few weeks ago and I'm also a Kagi subscriber. Just recently I've upgraded to the Family plan and convinced my wife to jump ship from Google plus my daughter discovers the internet right now with Kagi Kids (she is 9yrs old). Just for the record to tell you that I love what you guys do.

I use Orion only on my work phone since I don't have a Mac. Recently I made the switch on my Desktop PC from Win11 to Linux (I use Arch btw 😃). I'm in love so far and while Firefox ever since is my favorite browser since it was released over 20+ years ago I really would love to try and test Orion especially on Linux.

While I'm still fairly new to Linux as my main OS even though I've collected some experience with Unix/Linux over the years (I'm 40 and work as a IT sysadmin) I would love to chime in and if possible request that you evaluate a possibility to make Orion look more consistent not only for GNOME users, but also for KDE users like me :-)

Great to see a full-featured WebKit browser outside of the MacOS ecosystem! Going to keep an eye on this, it'll be interesting to see where it goes - more browser engine competition is always good. I hope this project succeeds and eventually gets enough funding to develop Windows and Android versions, so we can have a truly cross-platform WebKit browser.

Given that Firefox is slowly getting worse, and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon as long as the current management at Mozilla is in charge, I may end up switching to Orion when there's a stable version on Linux. Thanks to LibAdapta, it probably won't look too out of place on Linux Mint - and if there's any theming issues, I'll let you know.
