Steps to reproduce:
Pressing Cmd+W with only one tab open doesn't close Orion window. I just get a white empty tab (Dark theme enabled). Hitting Cmd+W once again closes the window

Clean Profile

Pressing Cmd+W in Safari closes active tab(s) and the window, as expected

Expected behavior:
see above

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Version 0.99.125.5-rc (WebKit 617.1.6)
macOS Ventura 13.6 build 22G120

Looks like this only happens if you have 'New tabs open with' set to 'Empty page'

With 'New tabs open with' set to 'Start Page' Orion closes correctly

Safari window closes correctly with either setting

I actually prefer this behavior, ever since opera had it 10+ years ago. More browsers should.

This should definitely be a toggle

@eirk i'm inclined to agree as too many times i've forgot that i had not opened a blank tab first on purpose and hit cmd+w to wipe out the page I was on as to then hit cmd+t only to end up with no window open at the first keystroke (it could indeed be nice to have a setting to make orion respect the difference between 'close tab' and 'close window' literally as the two final words don't mean the same thing)

            Steps to reproduce:
            Open a new window.
            Go to any website
            Close tab using command+w
            A new tab is opened

            Expected behavior:
            The window should close.

            Orion, OS version; hardware type:
            Version 0.99.125.5-rc (WebKit 617.1.6)
            Build date Oct 3 2023
MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma 14.0 build 23A344)

            Image/Video:

Merged 2 posts from Closing the last (non-homepage) tab in an non-saved windlow causes a new tab to open.

This also causes issues with popup windows, where you would then need to press cmd-w twice to close the popup

this issue happens with any configuration of "new windows open with"
and when the configruation of these two settings leads to opening a new window with a non-newtab, you cannot use cmd-w to close the window.

eirk Can you please sumamrize the ask, including difference to current behavior and Safari behavior?

                    • eirk replied to this.

Vlad Revert to the behavior before the latest update, as in, do not open a new tab when the last tab in the window is closed.

                      safari vs orion rc

Even latest orion has the same behavior or safari.

                      orion rc version:
                      Version 0.99.125.5-rc (WebKit 617.1.6)
                      Build date Oct 3 2023
MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma 14.0 build 23A344)

                      orion version:
                      Version 0.99.125-beta (WebKit 616.1.22)
