Steps to reproduce:
I recently switched from Windows to a Mac. While I was at it, it was an opportune time to switch to a premium search engine and browser.

I found the docs on https://help.kagi.com/orion/browser-extensions/macos-extensions.html#enabling-3rd-party-extensions-installation to be less than ideal. The docs state: "To enable installation of 3rd party extension, go to Settings -> Advanced and find "Allow installation of 3rd party Chrome extensions" or "Allow installation of 3rd party Firefox extensions" options." but there is no Settings menu in the menu bar. I found the menu items under Orion -> Settings... -> Advanced.

Today is my first day evaluating your search ecosystem, and when I kind my problem, I found https://orionfeedback.org/d/4529-cant-find-advanced-settings-to-allow-3rd-party-extensions. It seems that someone else had my exact problem! But instead of help, Brandon L. received one (1) undirected request for more detail unrelated to the original request. One (1) piece of advice that would be useful only if Brandon L. was able to solve their original problem. And one (1) comment pointing back to the page I have already found unhelpful. The previous commenter immediately followed up by appending a Nofix tag to the thread.

Expected behavior: A helpful help/feedback/docs system

Orion, OS version; hardware type: Version 0.99.125-beta (WebKit 616.1.22)
Build date Jul 31 2023
iMac (macOS Ventura 13.5.2 build 22G91)

Hey and welcome to Orion, Kagi, and macOS.

You are absolutely right by stating that the location of 'Settings' may be slightly confusing for someone who is entirely new to the operating system. The help documentation is written by the community for the community and the beauty of it is that anyone can submit improvements to the documentation. Maybe I’ll try to find the time to improve that section of the documentation this weekend.

That being said, most macOS software have their settings in the same location: menu bar -> program name -> settings/preferences, also accessible via the shortcut ⌘ + , so whoever wrote that part of the documentation probably assumed that the reader is already familiar with the operating system.

Regarding the orionfeedback.org post you found, I don’t think anyone was really at fault.
@eirk had a very legitimate reason for asking for a screenshot as something could actually be broken and the setting could actually be missing. It would've also instantly shown whether the poster was looking in the right place. Generally, even the simplest screenshots make helping people much easier.

Tagging the issue as 'nofix' is also the correct way to handle it as nothing was actually broken and the reporter never came back with further clarification. This site has received thousands of reports and Vlad has the often thankless job of keeping everything organized.

Lastly, Orion is free as in free beer and you don't have to pay $10 a month to use it. Kagi the search engine is a paid product but your report does not have anything to do with it.

coreyray00 I have updated the help page in question, sometimes we forget people start using Orion coming from different backgrounds.

Most of instances when we hear a problem of this nature, it is because the people have not bothered to read the documentation and just want to ask where can they do it. In an ideal world we would not need to have people read the docs, and we are forced to do it only because many have expectations that chrome and firefox extensions should work 100% on top of a webkit browser although this has never been done before Orion. But that is another story.

What matters is that we are doing our best. The team is small, less than 15 people are building a state of the art search engine and a web browser. We make mistakes and the communications aren't always up to standard.

What matters is that we care. If you go to my profile you will see that I made 6,000 comments here.

That means that I not only read every single comment made by anyone ever here, but I took time to respond to most of them. Quality of those can detoriate with time/exhaustion/previous experience as we are all only human.

It is OK to hold us by the high standard, because after all we are asking people to pay for something they can get free.
