Because this is mostly identical to https://orionfeedback.org/d/4192-url-bar-not-selecting-text-properly-on-first-tap, I wasn't sure how to ask to "reopen" a bug report, so I'm making this, but if things should be merged, etc. it's fine with me
There were 2 complaints in that thread:
- The text is not selected on first tap
- The trackpad cannot be used
It was marked done, with the 2nd issue addressed. The far more important one is the 1st.
Since the text isn't actually selected, it can't be copied/cut by gesture. The blue "selection" is what happens on first tap, on 2nd I used orange to show that iOS is reading them as different selection "types" (sorry for bad terminology). I attached a video (attention to top for gesture notifications)
I'd take videos of others, but there's no point and it would just be more data. Safari, Firefox, and Brave are able to copy by gesture on the first tap, Orion takes 2 taps for it. However, it then takes a 3rd tap to bring up the selection menu, to the expected 2.
I'm not sure what the issue is that's causing it to not really select on the first tap, but there's no advantage to that state, so it should just act as it does on double-tap, but on single-tap (removing whatever action the first tap is doing altogether).
I do know Brave Browser had a similar issue, and it was around the release of iOS 14 or 15, but they've fixed it now, and I don't keep up with it enough to know when. I'm trying to say it could have something to do with selection of items code & the wrong "tap action" being called when you tap the URL bar
