Brief Summary
Provide an option to remove the badge count from the downloads toolbar icon for completed downloads. It is annoying because I cannot overcome my urge to clear the badge every time I save an image or download a file. Safari does not have it. The progress bar to indicate active downloads is enough.

Taken from my second comment in this thread:

Alternatively, for people who like the badge, I think a better approach is to have the badge count down from the total number of active downloads. E.g. if there are 5 active downloads, the badge count displays 5 and decreases in number until it disappears when all downloads are complete.

adorabilis What if the down arrow turned into a checkmark instead? That way the button maintains its shape and isn’t distracting, while still notifying the user that a download is complete? Or if there are multiple downloads completed, the number could be inside the icon circle?

ForumNinja404 I think that's adding unnecessary complexity. I prefer to have the same icon and behaviour with the option to remove the badge count. E.g. if there are 5 active downloads, the badge count displays 5 and decreases in number until it disappears when all downloads are complete. This way there is no need to waste two clicks to clear the badge.

adorabilis changed the title to Change badge count behavior for downloads .

Just want to chime in that I am in complete agreement with the OP... I find badges to be distracting and I prefer to always disable them. Thank you!
