Brief Summary
Allow the tabs to actually exist on the side of the iPad, rather than just having a slide over. This wouldn’t really work on a phone though.

Details:
One particular implementation of this could make it so that it only does this when the iPad is being used horizontally. As it is, it feels like the address bar and tabs use a ton of the vertical screen real estate. Hiding the tabs when you’re scrolling only requires extra action to view your tabs again and be able to switch.

I just downloaded the iPad app and I see a menu for tab groups on the left, but not actually vertical tabs - am I doing something wrong?

aiJay Can you show a screenshot of what you see?

Does this work? Thanks for your quick response!

True vertical tabs will have to wait. Enormous amount of work.

Bummer - thanks for the update. Must be a ton of work, because no one does it for iPad. I am actually holding off on getting another iPad until someone supports vertical tabs on iOS!!!

This would likely be solved by making vertical tabs on iPad possible the same way they’re rolled out on Desktop. In the interim, being able to pin tabs and have them show just a favicon would be cool.

Makes for less wasted space in the tab bar.

Again you’ve done something like this on the desktop version of the app with just the favicons showing when choosing to use vertical tabs.

Merged 2 posts from Pint Tabs to only Favicon on iPad..
