Images don’t load in Word documents

Steps to reproduce:

Open a Word document
Insert an image

The image will be inserted but display a red “x” instead (even with compatibility mode on). When viewing the document in Safari, the image will appear fine.

Expected behavior:
The image is displayed properly.

For clarification this occurs when using Word on office.com, not when viewing a docx file. I can’t publicly share a document without doxing myself.
