Typo: SPEED* on YouTube

Steps to reproduce:

  • Go to any YouTube video and change the speed to any speed you like. Audio cuts out. I have never had this issue on any other browser. Waited a few days before submitting this bug. But the issue has not gone away.

Version 0.99.124.4.1-beta (WebKit 616.1.14.11.1)
MacBook Pro (macOS Ventura 13.3.1 (a) build 22E772610a)

Thanks in advance

Edit: yes even in compatability mode.

Update: this happens on all videos on any webpage in this browser, not just on YouTube. If you change the speed, slight cut out in audio as per OP. @Vlad

Edit: if you look closely at the loading bar with the timestamps of any video. When you change speed, what happens is it PAUSES momentarily and THAT is what is causing the audio delay on videos.

To fix this, one would need to make it so that speed changes do NOT pause the video (as in other browsers)

could you test out the behavior on safari and chrome? (just so that we have a clear comparison)

All Chrome browsers as well as Firefox have no problems.

Maybe it is a webkit issue. Though I just tested it on Safari and it seems the delay or audio lag on Orion is much more prominent. To the point where you have to rewind to hear the word that was obfuscated by changing the speed.

It's really not that big of a deal just something I thought I'd mention.

So even if it is there on Safari it seems to be a much shorter delay. Maybe someone else can chime in and see if they have a similar issue or if they noticed a difference between Orion & Safari.

This is marked as Planned for a while, any updates on timeline? I realize it's not high priority since relative number of votes on this issue is low and that overall functionality is not broken; so I totally expect the answer to be "not right now", but just wanted to know

Woah, you're right. I think this might've gotten resolved in the latest Orion version! 😃

Wait actually it is happening again.....

Seems like after restarting the browser it doesn't happen but after a few hours it starts happening again (due to memory pressure maybe?)

              12 days later

Vlad it's definitely happening in Orion, and it's been happening for a long time on Safari I think. At least I tried various video speeder extensions for at least 2-3 years on Safari, and they all suffered (and continue to suffer, up to the latest Safari version) from the exact same problem as Orion does.

I'm not an Orion supporter (yet) so I don't feel entitled to a solution... but for me it's a deal breaker. What interested me most in Orion is that I could use the same browser on MacOS and iOS, and on iOS even my favourite extensions were supported. But I spend enough time watching video on speedup (and speeding up and down constantly), and saving so much time doing so, that it's a huge, huge functionality for me that has to work flawlessly if I'm ever to give up Chrome.

If you can't replicate the problem, I'm happy to demonstrate it to you over screen sharing. It happened to me consistently on various Macs over last years, Intel and M-series.

ttarchala It sounds like a WebKit problem instead of Orion/Safari problem and I suggest posting this to webkit.org as a bug report. They are very dilligenet at reporting bugs like this.
