It is probably the other way around? Safari is made by the same company that made the OS, and probably the behavior that Safari exhibits is native behavior (which I can understand you are not used to).

We are reluctant to stray away from native behavior so we would need a good argument/discussion why.

This is shaping up to be the best browser on the market. It already feels like it.

      Thank you for your response. I would say that the native behavior in this instance is not the desired behavior, as those buttons simply are not intended for use to open pages; rather, their only function should be for navigating back/forward between pages. It doesn't make any sense to allow the back/forward buttons to be able to open pages. Safari should correct this behavior as well.

      Other browsers like Chrome or Firefox do not open links with use of the aforementioned buttons, as they shouldn't.

      I hope this explanation makes sense.

        Chrome and Firefox are browsers primarily created for Windows where different UX patterns apply. There are certain way things are done on macOS and we should respect that.

        Now I understand that you have described your desired behavior, which is what this forum is for, and if this gets more upvotes we will consider implementing it regardless of what Apple thinks.

                Adding my +1 to this one, as sometimes I end up opening links by mistake when I simply want to go back.

                  I'm running into this as well. The forward/back buttons correctly change the page but also trigger a click if you happen to hover over a link.

                    I see this is marked as done and in the release notes for 0.99.131, however I am still hitting this issue in Version 0.99.131.0.1-beta.

                    As described by others above, when I use the back/forward buttons on my mouse (Logitech G304) the browser will navigate back/forward in history but if I am hovering a link, it will also open that link in a new tab. However I have found that if the tab I am on has no history, the back/forward buttons do not open a new link.
                    Another note is that when I have the AutoScroll chrome extension version 4.10 installed, I can see the scroll anchor showing up if I hold one of the back/forward mouse buttons. I can confirm the issue is still present even when uninstalling the AutoScroll extension and restarting the browser.

                    Please let me know if there is any more testing I can do to help assist with tracking this one down.
