I use the multiple desktop feature of Mac. I typically have one browser profile per desktop (Personal/work/etc). When I click a link with Brave as my default browser, it prefers to open the link in a Brave instance in the current desktop. This is a very nice feature for me as it keeps me within my work desktop when clicking links from slack/outlook/vscode/etc.

With Orion currently requires setting the default browser profile at the OS level. The different profiles show up as different browsers. Would like to just choose "Orion" as the default browser and then have Orion use context to determine which profile to open a link in.

I do really like that the different profiles show up as separate apps on the Dock. I would like to keep that feature.

eirk changed the title to Open links in windows in the current space .

I think there's an app that depending on what link you open it uses one browser or the other. It would be great to see it implemented in Orion

The "Velja" app already lets you do pretty much what you are looking for. You can set rules like "If link is from [App], open in [Browser]". Since Orion profiles are setup to show as different applications, this does seem to work without any extra hassle.

Vlad I'm not quite sure what you mean because Safari does not have profiles. But Safari does prefer to open links in an existing browser window in the current space. If no browser window exists in the space it will open the link in an existing browser window in another space.

Base on Safari's behavior, if Orion's profiles were not independent apps, I think the feature I am requesting would just work.

Safari does have profiles now, but links still seem to open in the Safari window from the last active desktop space, while Orion just prefers the default profile.

The workaround currently is to use the “open with” contextual menu. Though there might also be a bug there, where Orion will duplicate the tabs in a profile window.

I second this. It is much more convenient to open links like Safari and Chrome: open them in the active Orion window in the current space, rather than in the default profile which might be in another space.
This is very useful and also natural for the following reasons:

              1. I create different spaces for different jobs, personal stuff, working, entertainment, etc. I switch to the current space before opening links for a reason: I just want to stay here to do a specific job. I expect everything that I do next to happen in the current space unless I switch to a different space myself. It's annoying when I open a search page with Alfred or Raycast and it ends up being opened in the default Orion profile elsewhere.
              2. Different profiles probably have different accounts logged in for each website, and some links only work for a specific account (e.g., links to private files in a Google Drive). If I have a "work" Orion profile (which is not my default profile) opened in a space dedicated to working and it has logged into my company's Google account, then if I open the Google Drive link of my company in this space, it makes no sense to switch to the default profile in another space to open it, because the default profile is for my personal stuff and it doesn't have the account to open this file.

I hope Orion can operate similarly to Safari and Chrome in terms of link opening. This is the only reason why I still stick with Chrome even Orion is way better in terms of browsing experience.

geniuscqy Orion has this setting in the latest RC

Is this what is being asked for?

Vlad Thanks for the new development. I tested this feature out in the new beta. Unfortunately it didn't work as expected. When Last Active Profile is checked, if I open two profiles A and B together, A at first and B at last, then the external links are always opened in B--the last profile that I opened, rather than A--the last profile that I just clicked on and did some web browsing in, no matter if A and B are in the same space.

Also, I kinda wonder how you define this "last active" for a profile. I thought it would be the profile window in the current space that I most recently used.

geniuscqy I advise you post a bug report with all details and video.
