Steps to reproduce:
I cannot download any documents except when viewing them in the pdf viewer. This issue persists in compatibility mode and with a clean Orion profile. Safari successfully downloads. I tried to debug this issue using the developer tools, but this isn't my area of expertise, and would appreciate further help. Even if the pdf can be successfully downloaded through the pdf viewer it will still fail to download when using "Download linked file". I have not changed or modified the default download location - on mac it's still /home/<uname>/Downloads/.

Expected behavior:
All downloads should work with the default profile.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Version 0.99.123.3-beta (WebKit 615.1.16.1)
Mac Monterrey 12.6.2
M1

After taking the video I uncovered some additional behavior. If I "Save As", then the document successfully downloads for both the default name and a chosen name. This behavior is shown in the video.

Vlad To add, I've never not experienced this behavior so it's hard to explain how to selectively trigger the bug.

ChrisKjellqvist Would appreciate steps to reproduce, including the URL to this page. Did you try in new clean orion profile?

@Vlad I have done this in a clean orion profile with and without compatibility mode and it's the same behavior. I don't know how to provide steps to reproduce because this happens with all downloads regardless of source and has always happened to me. Are there any internal log files I can provide from Orion that would provide some more precise error messages?

ChrisKjellqvist Because it never happens to me and most users, I am suspecting it has something to do with the Downloads folder. Can you set it in general settings and make sure Orion can write files to it?

Vlad That worked. I think it was trying to save to the download folder in iCloud and failing. Once I manually set it to the non-cloud Downloads folder, it works. Thank you!!!

@Vlad After some recent OS updates, the problem un-fixed itself and I had to re-set it to my local downloads folder so there does continue to be some weirdness. I don't know exactly the source of this behavior in the source code but I expect if the default download location was set to the absolute path $HOME/Downloads then that may resolve the problem. It could be an issue because I have a Download folder in iCloud, so there may be some confusion in selecting which Downloads folder it chooses and then some accompanying issues in directory permissions. Anyways, I don't necessarily think that users need to know what happens here, but rather that the default download directory should definitely be the local download directory.
