When opening a new tab, I often hit Cmd-T, then immediately start typing my search term. However, a second or two later, Orion clears what I'm typing and populates the default URL for a new tab (in my case, https://kagi.com), then throws my cursor into the search field on Kagi search (but I've lost what I've typed).

What I'd prefer:

  • Detect that I'm entering text, and let me keep entering it until I hit Enter
  • Load the default page content in the browser window without overwriting my typing in the URL field

Alternatively, I suppose you could "move" my typed text to the search field on the Kagi search page and let me continue typing there, but the above request seems more practical and intuitive to me.

Thanks for considering this.

thatdwayne Can you point to a browser that handles this in a way you described as a reference?

if don't mind me writing all of this:
I'm inclined to side with @Vlad here, then again I generally prefer to start with blank tabs/windows nowaday given that setting your own search engine preference for address bar entries is a very universal feature .. and beside as far as I know its normal for many webhosts and/or isps to take a lot more than half a second to respond to the browser's initial request for any url in question (regardingly of any user-side cache settings)

and hmm well I mean telling the browser to do a non-standard behaviour as per your suggestion might not be great for some users?

This is now working better, and you can close this suggestion.
