  • Passwords from password provider don't autofill (since 0.99.123.2)

  • BugsDesktopDone

Steps to reproduce:

  • Save some passwords in the system / iCloud Keychain
  • Attempt to autofill one of those passwords using Orion's Password Providers menu (see attached video)

Expected behavior:
Username & password should autofill

Actual behavior:
Password selection dialog works, but nothing autofills

This worked correctly in 0.99.123.1. Tested in clean profile as well.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion 0.99.123.3-beta (WebKit 615.1.16.1)
MacBook Pro (macOS Ventura 13.2.1 build 22D68)

    Steps to reproduce:

    • Arrive at a login form
    • Click Orion’s key button at the input field
    • Click on the “Passwords…” menu that shows up slightly to the left
    • Authenticate in the Keychain mini-window that appears
    • Find the right credential in the list and hit Enter
    • See the window close and no other change in the login form

    Expected behavior:

    • Username and password get auto-filled in the form

This is how it worked up until I think two releases ago (I think one release broke it and I waited for one more to see if it’s fixed but it wasn’t).

anton In order for something to stop working, I assume it worked before, I assume on a certain website. It would help if you had complete steps to reproduce including the website.

Vlad Take StackOverflow for example. But actually the steps are as intended, it really worked at any login form. Not quite seamless compared to Safari but very functional integration with Keychain…

anton So StackOverflow login used to have autofill, and it does not anymore?

Merged 4 posts from Keychain password autofill stopped working.

Vlad Autofill doesnt work at all. At first i thougt it was only on website with separate email and a password entry screens, but thats not the case.

              Steps to reproduce:

              • open netflix.com sign in
              • open password provider through menu
              • select account
                -> nothing happens

This is honestly the worst kind of bug, making using orion impossible

I concur. I really like Orion, but 3-party password managers also do not work reliably. I use Bitwarden and finally got TouchID to work on MacOS, but it's spotty and unreliable. Autofill plain does not work. I have not been able to find a way to edit keyboard shortcuts for the extension, so it's multiple steps time and again just to fill a password. I have had much more success with Orion on iOS.

orionrules Please create a new bug report with exat steps to reproduce. Generalized comments or anecodtal evidence does not move us any close to fixing the actual issue.

I would if I could. The autofill functionality has been so hit or miss that I can't consistently reproduce it if I tried. I tested the Orion keychain as an alternative to Bitwarden and it also frequently missed autofill. There appears to be no rhyme or reason for the autofill failures, else I would have mentioned it.

I believe this regression, as per my original description, has been fixed as of 0.99.126.4 beta. I’m able to fill login forms from Keychain again with very little friction.

There is still a case where on the same Safari would allow auto-fill (by showing the lock icon), but Orion wouldn’t, but such websites are rare enough that this is not bothersome.

                      Thanks and happy holidays!
