Vlad i have to see, but im sure i always have 10-15 tabs always open and safari doesnt heat up my laptop. Orion definitely did. As soon as i quit orion, the laptops cools after a few minutes. I will let you know the stats on safari though!

Over time memory usage of the main Orion process goes high even if not a lot (relatively speaking) of tabs are kept open and then the system gets sluggish. Here is Activity Monitor showing the Orion RC (latest) processes from a session that only had 8 windows and 21 tabs open at the time (net of 5 days of browsing so many windows opened and closed throughout the period):

Closing Orion and then restarting with All Windows From Last Session reduces memory footprint by multiple GB. Not the worst workaround but it can be problematic if the sluggishness starts in the middle of a working session that has one or more open websites that reset upon browser restart.

P.S.Beyond Orion, I am curious if anyone can explain why the Memory total listed in Activity Monitor's process list doesn't match the breakdown from Inspect Process...

Memory usage of long-running browser sessions to be the same as a fresh session with the same windows/tabs open. Memory usage after closing all windows to be the same as starting a clean session (i.e. memory usage is always just what is required for the currently open windows/tabs and one doesn't have to restart the browser to regain memory).

I have been experiencing this same issue! My Orion ends up freezing, becoming unresponsive, and then crashes, which forces me to force quit the application and reopen.

After restarting with all windows from last session, my memory usage from Orion was reduced nine times. I am also on Orion's Low Power Mode and I have NO extensions added.

Unfortunately I am experiencing this a lot, too.
I am still investigating to figure out what is causing this, and the insights I've gained so far is that there are certain heavy web apps that will cause memory leaks, and also some extensions like Bitwarden, which I had to uninstall because it made my browsing experience 10x worse on Orion.
It's a shame because Bitwarden (or a password manager extension on a browser) is a must, but I've never been able to use it smoothly on Orion.

My Orion's memory usage 2.5x'ed overnight after leaving Orion open again with its Low Power Mode and no extensions installed. After some browsing, all the web tabs were suspended, the focus staying on a blank new tab page when I went to bed.

Please use latest version (RC just came out) and provide steps to reproduce from a clean Orion profile.

Vlad When you say to reproduce in clean profile do you mean File>Profiles>New Profile... and attempt to reproduce in a new profile there?

Also still a problem in the newest RC.

Vlad Hi Vlad, happy to test the latest RC when it is also pushed out for Mojave and Catalina. Unfortuantely can't switch my main systems to Monterey for the near-term...

wcw Yes, thanks. This ensures you have same setting as we do and no extensions so any problem can be attributable (mostly) to Orion and hopefully reproducible.

Just happened to me as we speak. Will try to gather more info about this, and try to find a pattern to replicate it.
Will post here if I find a clear evidence of how this happens.

What happened? How did it happen? What are the steps to replicate the issue.
High RAM usage on macos Sonoma 14.0 with just one open tab and window and with low power mode enabled.

To reproduce:

open and and pin some tabs
orion automatically suspends all tabs
open one random tab in a saved window
check for ram usage

What did you expect to happen? Describe the desired functionality.
Lower resource usage with tabs suspended in low power mode.

What version of Orion are you running?
0.99.125.5-rc

Tinholoco Please provide exact steps to reproduce, from a clean new Orion profile, otherwise the entire report is not actionable.

"Open some tabs" is not accurate enough.

The below are the same tabs for chrome

The difference is very big. I know that google has a very big team to optimise chrome for mac but it would really be good if you guys are able to bring the Orion ram usage from 1gb to 500mb

I can confirm that the latest RC has significant memory usage compared to the 125.4-rc. I will attempt to do a side-by-side comparison of the current RC and the current 125-beta to show the difference in memory usage

All we need is steps to reproduce from a new clean Orion profile, not random screenshots 🙂

Ok, comparison with Orion RC 125.5 and Orion beta on my primary profiles. The only extension is Bitwarden.

Two tabs, one is the same YouTube video and the other is app.element.io

RC here reports in this sampling 2.5 GB of combined usage

Beta here reports just over 1 GB.

Any processes below those were taking minimal RAM.

I can try something similar with clean profiles that have no extensions but this is some representation of my normal usage.

I will add that since the 125.5 update, I did notice memory pressure in Activity Monitor showing up as yellow sometimes with Orion RC running. That's not a normal behaviour for Orion.
