In Safari, using the Cmd + Shift + Click shortcut on a link will do the opposite of the "When a new tab or window opens, make it active" setting, as long as the "Cmd + Click opens link in a new tab" setting is active.

I take advantage this behavior all of the time when browsing. Sometimes when opening a link I want it to become the active tab immediately. Other times I want to queue links to read later so I open the link in a new tab in the background.

The Safari preferences > Tab pane clearly shows how changing the "New tab = active?" setting changes the behavior of Cmd + Click and Cmd + Shift + Click.

When a new tab or window opens, make it active = Enabled:

    Cmd-click is well established as the modifier to open a link in a new tab, while Cmd-Opt-click opens in a new window.

    What appears to be lacking from Orion at the moment are the accompanying Shift key modifiers to invert default behaviours;

    i.e. if open a new tab is set to not activate the new tab, holding Shift along with Cmd is a way to temporarily reverse that preference, so the new tab does activate immediately.

    Likewise adding Shift to the 'open in new window' modifiers (Cmd-Opt) would open the new window behind the current one.

    These behaviours are all present in Safari.

        Hi,

        The keyboard shortcut universal to all browsers (Chromium and Safari) Command-Shift-Click doesn't make the tab active; this shortcut is supposed to open a new tab and make it active, Orion only opens it as if it were a standard Command+click;

        Regards,

            Also, if the option to open all clicked links that open in a new tab is activated, the latter should perform the opposite, that is not focus the newly created tab.

              Fortrikka changed the title to ⌘⇧+click should do opposite of new tab = active setting .

                Is this working for you all?
                It's not for me, also i would like to have an option to open a bookmark/link on the current tab, everything i try Shift+opt+cmd+anything always opens a new tab with or without switching to it depending on the settings only (not on which modifier i use to click).
                Other browsers liek Vivalid havce it so if you do OPT+CLick, it will open the link in the current active tab

                  Ok i see this works for Links on a website, CMD+click opens a new tab, CMD+Shift+Click opens and makes it active, any chance we can get this for bookmarks too? @Vlad
