Status bar not shown with classic layout and focus mode

Steps to reproduce:
enable classic layout and focus mode.
go to a webpage
scroll down
observe that the status bar doesn't stay visible

Expected behavior:
status bar should stay visible
to clarify, this results in some text being cut off in the upper middle of the screen where the notch is (but screen record cant show that

eirk, to close the loop on this ticket, I think the current build is showing the expected behavior for focus mode (fully hiding the status bar). The side effect of focus mode potentially cutting off text at the middle-top of the webpage is not enough to obviate the expected behavior of focus mode fully exposing all available screen real estate. If there are other concerns or bugs around focus mode and the status bar, let us know. Thanks as always for the help on Orion!

Steps to reproduce:

Start with both focus mode and hide toolbar on scroll to off
Turn on focus mode
Notice that it doesn’t work
Turn on hide on scroll
Notice that both work together properly

Steps 6 & 7 only result in #8 if they are executed in that order.

Turn off hide on scroll
Turn off focus mode as well
Notice that hide on scroll is still active and it’s been toggled back on in settings
Turn it off again
We are now back to the expected functionality with both turned off

Really love the new fullscreen browsing. but it has several quirks on several websites heres some examples, some of the sites it only happens sometimes

Steps to reproduce:
try google searching for an image and then scroll.
go to youtube and scroll in videos, sometimes bar will go up behind the notch and go semi transperant.
go to dr.dk and read an article, menu bar will hide behind notch

Expected behavior:
To not hide in weird ways

tl;dr
Focus mode doesn’t update the viewport’s height when only the toolbar is collapsed. (ie: scrolling upwards in focus mode)

Steps to reproduce:

Enable focus mode & hide toolbar on scroll.
Scroll down on youtube.com until it is full screen, scroll back up.
Notice that the viewport height isn’t updated and youtube’s toolbar remains at the very bottom.

Note there are currently other issues with focus mode and hide toolbar that may need to be addressed first, as they seem to overlap with each other.

Thanks @Longely and @ForumNinja404 for the info and repro steps. I'm working on this now, and some of these are fixable on our end, but one unfortunately won't be. The issue we can't fix is when a website has a fixed top bar that is supposed to be hidden when you're scrolling down the page. The reason we can't fix it is the webpage is essentially saying "move this bar 100% of its height above the top edge of the browser window". Orion's focus mode window reports its top edge as below the notch/island. This is necessary for users to be able to access top bars which don't hide, because if we reported the top edge of the browser as the top of the screen, you'd have a bunch of critical menu buttons obscured by the notch/island. It's trade-offs all the way down, and you can probably see why Safari just punts on the issue and always shows some kind of status bar over the entire top of the screen.

Ok thanks. hmm i see. thats indeed a bit tricky.

So if i understand you correctly, reason why they dont hide completly is because the space from the top of the bar to the edge of the screens top is higher then the menubar height of the website.

wouldnt that be fixed by setting the top of the screen as touching the notch?

so instead of this being the top:

this would be the top:

In this case:

my funtionality is messed up anyway since its hidden behind the notch. so it wouldnt matter if that got moved higher

Longely I'll take a look at that for notched devices, since the notch seems like most of the time it'd be smaller than a website's menu bar. The new dynamic island is not as easy to deal with since it is further down from the top of the screen.
