I think Arc solves this in an excellent way.
You can create different workspaces, each one with its own cookies, extensions, bookmark, etc. And you just have to navigate between them as if it were another tab.
This is very fluid and allows you to quickly move to another workspace while working in one.
This approach is very productive compared to having a new browser window for each session.
I have to strongly disagree with Arc's implementation. It's only a minor step above the least desirable method of having different windows for each profile. At the end of the day, it amounts to little more than a UI tweak on how Safari itself handles it.
If you're engaged in any workflow where you need to frequently move between tabs of different profiles it feels very unwieldy. For example, I'm frequently logged into office365 with my standard profile (where I'm referencing some document) and also logged into Azure or Intune with my admin profile (where I'm taking actions based on the previously mentioned document). The inability to use the standard ctrl+tab shortcut to tab switch is a huge pain - instead I have to remember a positionally variable shortcut, and if I'm throwing a third tab into the mix need to add the cognitive load of thinking about whether I can just switch tabs or need to switch workspaces instead (and also remember the direction of the workspace switch).
I think the reason people are specifically asking for something like Firefox Containers is because it's the best of all worlds. A browser can still implement something like spaces (which Orion does have in the saved windows feature) but allowing per tab accounts lets you do way more. If you look at Zen browser, it's firefox based but adds a feature like spaces. You can tell Zen that any tab in a space should open a specific profile (so at this point it still works exactly like Arc) but you can also override that. At that point, a space is just an arbitrary grouping of tabs which can optionally default to a specific profile but isn't bound to it because profiles work at the per tab level and not at the space level.
This is a feature i too would love to have. Relatively new to orion, it was the promise of extensions that lead me to try but unfortunately ff containers dont work as they should so a native solution would be a game changer
GeorgeK im with you on this, been using zen browser also, orions promise of zero telemtery and fingerprint resistance is what pulled me in from zen, but without the container extension working i feel it suffers a little. If it can be implemeted, game changer!

it would be really cool if I could have multiple profiles that acted like separate browsers like they do now, and inside each profile I can also have multiple containers...
I recently switched from Firefox and definitely miss this feature. My biggest use case is setting up containers such as "Banking", and only access my home banking websites through that specific container. Same for social media, etc. I can keep it all seperate.
I support this feature request. This is a necessary one for my use case, and the main reason orion is not my main desktop browser yet (it is on my mobile though). My preferred implementation is something like firefox's multi-account containers. Different windows would not quite make it tbh.
My use case is that I am employed by 2 different institutions, both of which use microsoft online stuff. Thus, I need different containers to be able to access email, sharepoint etc, in addition to another container for being able to access outlook etc with a personal account. Different windows would not really be a good solution for that, I do not want different workspaces, just different cookie environments for some groups of tabs. I cannot think of a better way to do it that what firefox does with the containers (+ their multi-account containers extension).

I have 7 different Google accounts and I need to be able to switch between them frequently - and often compare content across them side-by-side. The 2 click and reload to switch accounts in Gmail is horrific for my use case. And having to manage 7 Chrome windows is also a ridiculous solution. Firefox-style containers is the only way to do this.
It's also just better security wise. If I (or my kids) do something stupid that exposes my cookies and private session data while using a personal container, all the work stuff I'm logged into is unaffected.
I've also just wanted to pay for a privacy respecting version of Google for as long as I can remember.
With multi-account containers, the value proposition of Kagi with Orion becomes a no-brainer for me.
I agree with you @nathansherburn , there isn't another reasonable solution out there. I use multi-account containers specifically to support access to the same service via multiple accounts. Even during development and support, it's useful to be able to be an admin as well as a user to verify changes in design, ACLs, conditional rendering, etc.
From the security perspective, multi-account containers + Cookie AutoDelete on all non-containerized tabs means that I get the best of more-private-by-default + persisting sessions when I need/want them.
I've paid for the Orion+ subscription for a couple of years, and a Kagi subscriber for longer than that. I still use Firefox on desktop all the time, because their implementation of multi-account containers. Orion on mobile is great, but when I need to do anything substantive there's no replacement for this feature.
Is there any way we can add Orion++ to allow specific features to get accelerated? When I asked back in March 2023, the target was 127 / 128. I would happily pay to make this finally land.

I will prefer Firefox on desktop until Orion supports the equivalent of Multi-Account Containers with Cookie AutoDelete. I absolutely need the browser to clean website data soon after I close the tab, except for a list of domain names – e.g for kagi.com and fastmail.com. I also want the option to open certain domains (say, mail.google.com) in a container and keep the website data across browsing session but open other URL on that domain (say, google.com/maps) in a separate container that auto-delete the website cookies.
This is a must-have in terms of privacy.
