In the next release of Orion, it is possible to generate a QR code of the current URL either by right clicking the URL or via Tools -> Generate QR code for this page:

This feature could use a couple improvements, namely

  • The ablility to download the generated QR code
  • The ablility to edit the URL of which the QR code is generated from (see Chrome's implementation below)

    8 months later
ForumNinja404 changed the title to Allow copying and saving generated QR code .

      Brief Summary
As an Orion user, I would like to be able to copy and save QR codes I generate with Orion

      Details:
Orion currently allows me to generate a QR code by going to the "Tools" menu and then clicking on "Create QR code for this page", however I cannot copy or save the QR code. My suggestion is to have 2 buttons below the QR code ("Copy" and "Save"), clicking on Copy will copy the QR code to the clipboard and clicking on Save will open a save dialog to provide the name and location to save the QR code image file.

DavidR What is the use case for this and is there any browser that does this?

Vlad The use case is people often need to create QR codes pointing to a website in order to include in social media posts, flyers, business cards, banners, etc. People can also use online tools to generate them but having it in Orion is convenient. Orion already generates QR codes however there is no way to copy them or save them so adding these features would make the existing feature more useful.
I'm not aware of other browser doing this, but other browsers don't have the ability to generate the QR codes either while Orion does.

DavidR You can use the native screenshot feature of macOS to save this.

Vlad That's not the same thing at all. That results in possibly poor picture quality, and it may be misaligned.

All I think is necessary is to implement a right click context menu saying "Copy" on the generated QR code popup

DavidR other browsers don't have the ability to generate the QR codes

Chrome has this, as well as copy/download options (and modifying URL, which I don't think is necessary, but ofc is nice to have, if someone finds a good UX for it)

@Vlad I made a mockup for a native implementation of this suggestion. It would simply add the actions beneath the existing popup.

ForumNinja404 My fist impression after seeing the mockup is that the Download and Copy buttons should be inverted, with Download being on the right and Copy on the left.

@Vlad I'm wondering if this could be a feature worth implementing on near future releases. I know that the native screenshot feature from macOS is a possibility but it is combersome to get the QR code right if you care about only getting the image (e.g. you are using the QR code in a project and has to look neat).

ForumNinja404 Looks good but I don't think that the URL text label is needed as you know what you are generating (also the same URL is above).

cedric What? If a feature is worth implementing is in part determined simply by the number of upvotes.
