  • Orion on iOS does not seem to be advertising handoff anymore

  • BugsMobileDone

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open a URL in Orion on iOS
  • Observe no handoff icon shows up on macOS doc

Expected behavior:
Advertise handoff so the icon shows up in the dock. Works with Safari and other browsers. This also worked in Orion previously, and several handoff posts on this site are marked done, hence this is a bug report and not a feature request.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
App version: 1.2.3 (1) (WebKit 8614.3.7.0.6)
System version: 16.2.0
Device type: iPhone 13 Pro Max
Native bounds: (1284.0, 2778.0)
Scale: 3.0
Regular tabs: 14/14/14/https://eclecticlight.co/2022/12/24/how-does-macos-tell-the-type-of-a-file/
Private tabs: 1/1/1/(

After playing with this some more, it seems like it does work, but can be inconsistent at times.

For reference, I have Velja installed on my system. It wasn't registering the intent it seemed from Orion iOS, so a handoff option was not showing up on the dock. It was showing up for every other iOS browser I have installed though.

I set Orion RC to be the default browser, and it seemed to be picking up the intent. I set my default back to Velja, and it seems like it will pick up the intent from Orion iOS now, but it can still be a bit inconsistent. If you open the Orion app, the handoff will show up briefly and then disappear from the dock. Switching to another tab brings back the handoff intent.

That said, since this seems to be an interaction via a "different browser" on the Mac side, not sure you'll want (or be able to) look in to that any.
