  • Trying to search a string in the URL bar opens top hits instead of searching via search engine [iPad]

  • BugsMobilePlanned

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Typing any string that shows a Top Hits into the URL bar (e.g., “hi,” “what,” “goo,” etc.)
  2. Press Enter/Return (to initiate search)

Expected behavior:
Typing any string without a domain extension attached (i.e. a full URL) should search for the string in the default search engine if one is set. Since the 1.2 update, I cannot search any string that would suggest a Top Hit by using the URL bar. If a string in the URL bar suggests a Top Hit, pressing on the top hit should go to it, but pressing Enter/Return should trigger a search.

This behavior is present with all search engines (default or custom) set through the app settings. It’s like the top hit function is overriding the search. This happens with autocomplete on or off as well.

This bug is also present for me on iOS using Orion Browser version 1.2.3

Vlad yes, I just wanted to update as previously I thought it was iPad only. I have realized now that it is not a full bug. This behavior is expected when autocomplete fills out the URL bar with the rest of the URL, which is how it works on every browser I’ve ever used, and how I assume it was supposed to work in Orion. The bug is that the autocomplete isn’t showing up, and since it doesn’t, there’s no way to backspace to cancel it and do a search instead of going straight to the autocompleted URL
