Here's a video

Orion on the left, Safari on the right

abayomi185 I am not able to reproduce the problem. You did not indicate if you tried disabling all extensions in Orion and trying with a clean Orion install. This is not usual or expected behavior and something is causing it externally.

Disabling the only extension I had running has made it better; "Video Speed Controller". Just remembered it was worse when I had Vimium enabled.
Would you happen know an alternative I can use?

abayomi185 Not sure what video speed controller does, but it sounds like something youtube videos have built in?

I've been browsing some more and the issue still persists 🙁

Does a clean install involve resetting Orion, History, Bookmarks, etc? Or nuking and redownloading the app?

          Thanks

I'm having the same problem, but I don't have Video Speed Controller installed. Whenever I open a few tabs really quickly, usually in YouTube, Orion freezes until all the tabs are loaded. I've tried it with and without compatibility mode on and the problem persists. Is there a confirmed way to fix this?

            • Vlad replied to this.

InterestingName We need a confirmed way to reproduce this first (as I can't). Starting from a clean Orion install please post exact steps to reproduce this problem (video would be great).

Vlad For some reason toggling cookies off and back on and logging out and back in to YouTube reduced most of the lag. I'll try to post a video of it on a clean install vs my current install soon.

I reset Orion and the glitch has stopped. I'll reply later if it comes up again.

was just going to post about this, and yea i dont think its the machine, cuz it also happens on my m1 pro mbp. its almost like random, i dont know, will post again if i see a reproducible pattern, one thing i have noticed is that it happens more the more i use orion(not related to number of tabs open), time as in in days, not individual session, in my first few days of using orion, it happened like twice, however just today(like a lil over a week since i installed) it happened to me atleast 5 times.

Just updated Orion to (0.99.123.3-beta) and it is much better!

I can open multiple YouTube videos and reddit posts with barely a hiccup. Works with my extensions too.

Looking forward to seeing how it performs over time and glad to be able to use Orion as my main browser again.

Do you have any ideas as to what it might've been @Vlad ?

                      • Vlad replied to this.

                        Thanks!

I had checked the release notes but didn't find anything specific to issue. Perhaps the kernel or memory leak bug?

Was only curious as to what it could be.

I have the same problem. Every other few weeks Orion starts playing up and showing a spinning beach ball when I get back to it after using another app. I have 22 pinned tabs plus sometimes up to ten regular ones.

I would love to learn how I can troubleshoot this. Besides deactivating all plugins.
I know of the developer tools, but where do I look/what do I do to find what's holding Orion up?
If I can see on which extension/process it hangs, I can report more precise information.
                          Thanks!

                          I'm on Version 0.99.123.3-beta (WebKit 615.1.16.1)
                          MacBook Pro M1 Max (10 core) 32Gb (macOS Ventura 13.2.1 build 22D68)

janpeeters Can you reproduce this in a clean new Orion profile with zero extensions? That would be a first step (rulling out extensions causing it). Second try Develop -> Emty cache if you get it next time and see if it helps.

I'll try, but this will take some time, very busy at the moment.

I suspect that it's either the amount of active tabs (or something that's happening within those tabs) or an extension that's playing up. So for me also discovering if it is an extension, and which one is important. So I'd rather first test with the current situation.

Is there a process monitor in Dev tools with which I can see the process that occupies the CPU at the moment when I get a beach ball. What do I look for? And how do I use it?

I've created new empty profile and there everything runs smoothly.

In the profile I use normally, with all plugins active, I deleted the cache, that didn't change the behaviour.
When I deleted my full browsing history, Orion stopped showing the beach ball and was also a lot more speedy in loading pages. I cannot reason why though.
