  • Show Favorites/Bookmarks bar above tabs and not just have bookmarks as a vertical sidebar

  • SuggestionsDesktopDone

Hi,

I don't understand why this great app doesn't have the feature that Safari also has, which allows you to have your favorites or bookmarks ready and showing with favicons and everything above your tabs. It is currently the only thing preventing me from switching to Orion fully. Everytime i have to open one of my bookmarks or favorites i either have to keep open the vertical sidebar, which takes up sooo much space or open it completely everytime.

So much more frustrating than just having a drop down bookmarks folder or your favorite sites ready at hand above your tab section.

Vlad I think that the problem is that you can have EITHER vertical tabs OR bookmarks sidebar. Would be much more versatile to have a sidebar with buttons to display Bookmars, Tabs, whatever. I think that Vivaldi and Safari both do that.

Vlad So the issue is not having a favorites bar as a horizontal bar beneath the toolbar and above the tabs you have open. (Like Chrome and Safari, for example)

The only option i see currently, is having a bookmarks button which then opens a whole window for bookmarks/favorites, or always having the vertical sidebar open, which takes up a lot of space.

Basically asking for more accessible favorites/bookmarks option.

bryd Did you not try what I suggested?

View menu -> Show bookmarks bar

or you are asking for something else?

Vlad Yes, but this only gives me a bookmark emblem or button. And not until i press the button does a whole window open for my History, Bookmarks, Reading list, Favorites, Extensions etc. where i can then find my bookmarks. Maybe this is just a bug or i am doing something wrong?

The request is to have each individuel bookmark or favorite url, lined up. Insted of it being a button to access everything. Makes sense? 🙂

This is currently how a window looks with "Show Bookmarks Bar" On:

Pressing the little bookmarks emblem in the left corner then opens this window:

And this is then Safari with "Show Favorites Bar" On and how i would prefer it:

bryd Orion has seperate Bookmakrs Bar and Favorites folders (as seeon on your screenshot) by design to give users more power, as not everyone wants to have start page and bookmaks bar the same. So all you need is to copy stuff from favorites to bookmarks bar folder.

Vlad ahhh, THANK YOU!! It appears i didn't understand the difference between "bookmarks bar" and "bookmarks" folder. But now it is solved, thank you for your help.

bryd No worries. It is a learning experience for us.

Give what you know now, what is the simplest change we can make to communicate this to new users?

Vlad Not sure if it was because i copied the bookmarks from my old Chrome. But i think it confused me that there was multiple Bookmarks folders.

                  1. Favorites
                  2. Bookmarks bar
                  3. Bookmarks

And then a fourth sub-folder to the third "Bookmarks" called "Chrome Bookmarks". Maybe you could find a way to make your old Chrome/Safari bookmarks, that you transfer to Orion, jump directly in your "Bookmarks Bar" folder. That's the only thing i can see would have avoided this.
