Download a file without that has no extension or period, e.g. the SHA2-256SUMS of yt-dlp from GitHub. The downloaded file will have the .bin extension appended (e.g. SHA2-256SUMS.bin

I tried using Compatibility mode and the issue is still there. Safari correctly names the file when downloaded. This seems like it might be the result of some preference somewhere, but I'm unable to find it

Expected behavior:
The file name should be the same as when downloaded through Safari or when using curl -LO, i.e. without the .bin suffix

Active extensions:

  • uBlock Origin
  • Dark Reader
  • Bitwarden
    (Also reproduced this in compatibility mode, so I doubt any of these are the cause)

    Steps to reproduce:
    go to google drive
    download any file
    e.g abc.pdf
    the filename wont be abc.pdf it will be something like
    16z2OxwXp5JnGdiahqxu0ngO9AAyk-h5A
    Expected behavior:
    the file downloaded is abc.pdf

      i have also disabled content blocking for all websites (using uBlock origin instead) and disabled intelligent tracking prevention for drive.google.com to try to fix this, but it didnt help, the only extensions i have are uBlock origin, sponsorblock for YouTube and FastForward.

        this could be from the same root cause as the issue I flagged this as a duplicate of.

            Google drive downloads still have weird file names on the latest update. just updated and tried

              macki I just download a pdf file from my google drive and it had the correct extension. So we will not better steps to reproduce.
