Steps to reproduce: I can't reproduce this in Safari, I have these plugins(all for the Firefox browser) active:

YouTube works fine and the plugins behave correctly but at some point, seemingly randomly, YouTube videos stop playing. They load but I can't unpause them, it looks like they get paused automatically as soon as I click the play button. I allowed all auto-play for every website but that didn't help.
The only solution I have at the moment is to disable all of the extensions, restart the browser, and reactivate the extensions, until the bug presents itself again.

Expected behavior: YouTube videos should play normally

Orion, OS version; hardware type: Orion Version 0.99.119-beta (WebKit 615.1.1), macOS 12.5.1, MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro

Here's a video of the bug happening:

ncmd It seems to be caused by one of the extensions you have active. Perhaps you can try to figure out which one is it?

        ncmd

        1. Open any YouTube video
        2. Turn on compatibility mode
        3. The page refreshes and you are presented with the following pop-up
        4. Accept or reject it
        5. Turn off compatibility mode
        6. Videos play fine again

laiz That doesn't fix the problem for me: if I turn on compatibility mode and reject the cookies the video plays, but as soon as I turn compatibility mode back off the problem comes back.

Vlad I tried disabling extensions individually and reloading the page but the problem still persists so I can't tell for sure which extension it is. The only fix I have for now is disable all of them, and it's hard to know which one it is by enabling them one by one as the problem is random and doesn't present itself immediately.
If there are some logs that I can provide that can help with this please let me know.

That is peculiar as an identical issue was fixed for quite a few of us in the discord server with those steps. If I had to guess, it's caused by the "I don't care about cookies" extension.

laiz That's weird because I now tried disabling the "I don't care about cookies" extension, restarting the browser and even rebooting but the videos still won't play... I even uninstalled it and cleared all browser data completely but that won't fix it.

Ok, I found something out: it seems to be related to the browser's built-in cookie management and content blockers.
This is what I found out:

                  • If I uncheck "Enable cookies" the video won't play at all and there's no way to make that work AFAIK, I tried everything.
                  • If I keep cookies on, then the in-built "Enable Content Blockers" option prevents the cookie prompt from YouTube from appearing, and that's what's blocking the playback.
                  • If I enable all of my extensions(including "I don't care about cookies") but I disable the browser's in-built "Enable Content Blockers" option the video will play but for some reason the "I don't care about cookies" extension is unable to block YouTube's cookie prompt.

It seems as if YouTube changed something in such a way where you're forced to respond to that prompt.

ncmd Not getting any of that. So could it be that you are in EU and cookie prompt in EU on youtube are different?

                    • ncmd replied to this.

Vlad I have no idea. I am in the EU and my cookie prompt looks like this if that's of any help:

Let me know if I can provide more details to fix this(screen captures, logs...)

Judging by the number of upvotes (just you) it oculd be that the issue is related only to you. Not really sure what else can you do but to try with a clean isntall of orion on another computer?

Hey, I have the same issue. M1 mac, in the US, no cookie pop-up. I disabled all my extensions too. Compatibility Mode doesn't fix it. The only fix is to restart Orion. I'll update the post if I find anything else out.
