Case: Open tabs while there is no internet connection
Description: Opening tabs in Orion while there is no internet connection consumes considerably more CPU resources than doing the same in Safari. This case is 100% reproducible as this happens every time.
Please find the files here (I'm getting bored of the upload file size limitation when videos are requested).
Steps Orion:
- Make sure Orion is completely closed
- Make sure there is no internet connection
- Run this Apple script (test1_no_internet/CPU_test1_Orion.scpt) which just opens tabs in Orion
- What you see in the video (test1_no_internet/cpu_test1_orion.mp4) is a spike in CPU consumption while Orion opens the tabs
- Here is a screenshot of the CPU spike
Steps Safari:
- Make sure Safari is completely closed
- Make sure there is no internet connection
- Run this Apple script (test1_no_internet/CPU_test1_Safari.scpt) which just opens tabs in Safari
- What you see in the video (test1_no_internet/cpu_test1_safari.mp4) is a smaller spike in CPU consumption while Safari opens the tabs
- Here is a screenshot of the CPU spike
If anything in my post is preventing you from investigating the significant CPU consumption differences between Orion and Safari, please let me know in this thread. That way, I can provide more details or be informed if you don't plan to pursue it.
