I use https://github.com/searxng/searxng as my meta search engine and https://gitlab.com/Njinx/instx.git to find the fastest searXng instance. This works well for me. It allows me to use the regular search engines without having to hand over my search behavior (https://docs.searxng.org/own-instance.html#how-does-searxng-protect-privacy) and therefor not ending up in a search bubble.
It takes me 15 minutes of configuring this, but for the not-savvy it would be good if this could be a standard feature for Orion.

Two things: Orion claims to provide "Privacy by design" and yet your suggested search engines contain Google and more which are the main cause of internet users losing their privacy online. Adding SearX as search engines makes that privacy really gets protected "by design" . If Orion would use Searx.live to determine the best searx engine in terms of speed and availability and switch meta-search engine every x minutes, not one search company would have our details, hence not one search company would know how to target us with ads, news or selective ("recommended") content.
Another step towards "privacy by design".
TL;DR Implement instx in Orion so we have fast, reliable and real private search.

ToontjeM I think you misunderstood me. If you want a search engine to be added to Orion, you should provide

Search engine URL
Search engine autocomplete URL

This is how any search engine gets added to Orion.

Privacy by design is referring to the browser. Orion is one of the very few if not the only browser that is zero-telemetry by default.

What the user does with it, including visitng any website on the web, is not nor it csn be what privacy refers to (although we do everything possible to protect them there too, via built in ad and tracking blocker)
