Allow some scrolling upwards without unhiding the toolbar.

On iOS/iPhone, Orion unhides the toolbar almost immediately on scrolling upwards. This is something it has in common with both Safari and Chrome, while Firefox, Firefox Focus, and DuckDuckGo allows some upwards scrolling before unhiding.

As a person who continuously scroll slightly up and down while reading, the Safari/Chrome-model causes sufficient visual noise that I've disabled the hiding and live with the constant presence of toolbars instead.

This is a very preference-dependent suggestion, but hopefully it wouldn't be too difficult to add as an option in the future if there is sufficient interest.

r2m0 Thanks for sharing your request. Preferences like this literally depend on enough people supporting (upvoting) them as we do not plan to add every niche setting to preferences to keep it sane.

I have enabled focus mode to only see web page content. So when I scroll down, everything disappears and it is good!

However, when I scroll up, even by a tiny amount in case I missed a sentence, all the UI elements flash back into view, with is annoying since most of the time I don’t need those controls

I’d like to have an option to keep them hidden unless I use some other method to show them

The keep hidden option could have the following config:

only in focus mode
only when scroll distance is low (eg, when you scroll back by just a paragraph because you previously scrolled too far)
only when scroll up happens within X seconds after scroll down (this also tries to filter the common case of scroll backtracking)
always

and then potential options to reenable it:

tap in the empty notch bar
tap at the bottom
arbitrary gesture
when you reach the top of the page when scrolling

I will use this feature to not see page content I don’t need obstructing content I need
