When opening a bookmark, check if current tab is start page

I like that opening a bookmark creates a new tab. But I'm so used to creating a new tab (command T) and then using a bookmark that I end up with an empty (start page) tab. I suggest that opening a bookmark checks the current tab and uses it if it's the start page otherwise it creates a new tab and uses that.
