Orion has crashed multiple times for me out of a sudden, but that's okay. It sometimes happens for me with other browsers too. However, the difference between how Orion handles the crash vs other browsers is what needs an improvement. Other browsers like Chrome and Firefox always show a prompt with a button, if you click it then all the pages (or tabs) that were previously opened before the crash are restored. Not only that but it also restores the cached version. I mean I have CookieAutoDelete extension, so I get logged out everytime the browser quits but restoring the pages using that button restores the logged in version of that website as well. So it's not just opening the URLs again, but restoring the cookies and cache as well as far as I understand the tech things behind it.

Also, note that some users tried to suggest about the setting of always opening previous tabs/pages when Orion restarts. That is totally different from this. This feature in other browsers gives you a prompt ONLY when the browser crashes. I think this should be implemented because I've lost progress many times during my research using Orion when the browser crashed. Below is the screenshot of that prompt on Chrome as an example.

For others that need this in the meantime, I believe that the menu bar option History > "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" should work to restore the windows even in the event of a crash (though my Orion has not crashed recently to test this). But in general, I agree that is hard to discover and might not be named in a way that people from non-Safari browsers are expecting.

piano4550 That is indeed a temporary but annoying solution as we don't want previous windows to open all the time. Only in the event of a crash should it open previous tabs.

Soum I believe you are referring to the Preferences option "Orion opens with: All windows from last session". This indeed has the behavior you describe. However, the History menu option I referred to is not a permanent toggle. It is simply a one-off way to open all windows from the previous session. That way you can only do it when Orion crashes or you accidentally close the application.

Soum To clarify you do not have a setting for Orion to always restore pages after restart? You want a prompt only after Orion crashes, if this setting is not turned on?

The issue is if the machine crashes, after machine restart Orion does NOT restore the previous session, and browser_state.plist is empty. This is regardless of the "open Orion with previous tabs" setting. Crashes wipe out Orion sessions permanently and only a restore from backups of browser_state.plist, if you have backups, works to get your tabs back. This is unlike Safari and other browsers which normally get your session back, in most situations.
