  • Closing last non-pinned tab will close browser window even you are on a pinned tab

  • BugsDesktopDone

Steps to reproduce:

PS: I clicked the "x" and the browser window is gone.

Expected behavior:

  • Closing last non-pinned tab should not close the window if a pinned tab is active. (This is the bug)
  • If there is pinned tab, closing last non-pinned tab should switch to last active pinned tab, or first pinned tab. Current behaviour is close window.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:

  • MacOS 12.4
  • MacBook Air
  • Version 0.99.115-beta (WebKit 614.1.12)

I don't see this happen. On the contrary, it does not close the window even if there is another one.

Kinda weird UX, hope to see this fixed

This is a video -- closing (cmd+w) the last unused tabs, with pinned tabs, closes the entire browser. It should just head to the last active pinned tab (like Firefox) and not close the entire window. This is super weird.

Edit: Looks like you can't delete posts here :)

I misunderstood how this works now I think. If you delete the "Start Page" tab then the window closes, if you delete all other tabs then it brings up the "Start Page" tab, which is probably a fine solution in general, though I do think having open pinned tabs should keep the window open regardless? I would be in support of waiting for users to manually close the window, but it isn't a necessary feature.

The original bug appears to be have been fixed. If I close the last non-pinned tab on Orion when a pinned tab is active, the window does not close. Instead, a new start page tab is opened. I'd consider this bugDone @Vlad

            Regarding the post by yeri
this seems like a different bug (the active tab is a non-pinned tab whereas this issue deals with the case where the current tab is pinned) which seems to have been discussed at length in #4519
