Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open an extension page in the Chrome Web Store, e.g. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jiffy-reader/lljedihjnnjjefafchaljkhbpfhfkdic
  2. Click on "Add to Orion"
  3. The button will display "Checking...", but nothing happens. (In one out of like 20 tries a download window popped up, but I couldn't make it happen again).

It doesn't matter whether content blockers and tracking protection are enabled or not. Compatibility mode doesn't work as that will on button press just open the web page to download the Chrome browser.

This seems to be a regression because I was able to install extensions just fine last week. Maybe Google also reworked their checking algorithm for compatible browsers in the meantime?

Expected behavior:
The extension installs properly.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion: 0.99.114.1-beta (WebKit 614.1.12)
OS: macOS 12.4
Hardware: MacBook Pro 2019 (Intel)
Installed Extensions: Dark Reader

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Install Orion (for the first time)
    2. open https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/vimium/dbepggeogbaibhgnhhndojpepiihcmeb (or probably any extension)
    3. try to install
    4. button changes to Checking...
    5. open extensions from menu > Manage
    6. select Add extension
    7. select Install Chrome Store
    8. search the extension
    9. Try installing
    10. gets successful
    11. but it seems take some time for the extension to actually get to start working

    Expected behavior:
Installing works successfully from the get go via the direct url (or by search) without having to open the extension menu

    Orion: Version 0.99.115-beta (WebKit 614.1.12)

ryuheechul Thanks for your reproduction steps! It seems that indeed installation only doesn't work when opening the store via a deeplink instead of from the extension menu. πŸ€” Opening the store from the extension menu and then searching for the extension and installing it from there seems to indeed work as it should.

@Vlad anything we can do on our end to make store deeplinks work?
