When opening a video in full screen from Youtube (and presumably elsewhere), Orion currently echoes Safari's behavior of adding a new "Space", basically creating a new fullscreen "window" just for the video. This makes watching videos on both browsers feel slower and even a little nauseating to me due to the amount of motion and how laggy the animation is.

On Chromium and Firefox, videos stay in the same window when going into full-screen. In my opinion, this is a much better way of handling full-screens.

(Not marked as a 'bug' since it's also present in Safari. I imagine it's intended by Apple, but I don't know who actually prefers it.)

lumitry It is a the way it is intended by Apple/WebKit.

The way that fullscreen works currently makes sense to me, and actually it has the benefit of allowing me to interact with other tabs in the same window while a video is full screen.
Video showing what I am talking about:

That's true, but for me I usually use a separate window for my browsing versus stuff I'm watching, so it's a rare use case that I'd interact with my "youtube window". In other words I'm not really sure what the best solution is.

As a side note, I understand that it has to fill the entire screen when you're in windowed mode, but when you're already in full-screen it doesn't make much sense to me to open up a brand new 'full screen window'. I always browse in full-screen so it feels odd to have an animation to go into the same mode that I'm already in- if that makes any sense at all.

Additoinally, it's worth mentinoing that chrome will do a similar motion as safari if the browser isn't already in full screen mode

The ask got lost in translation.

lumitry I think it is much better to have a new window with your fullscreen video. And I find it handier in Safari and Orion.

Is there a way to disable this for people who don't want it to function like that?

I really wish this was a feature. I had to change to Firefox because it drove me crazy!

                  3 months later

Please add this feature. It is really slow which makes the whole experience slow besides
There is also a very big flaw in this approach for at least someone who uses the keyboard to navigate. Let me explain.

                  1. If you open orion not in full screen, on main(1) virtul desktop
                  2. open youtube and enter fullscreen
                  3. go to your desktop for somethign like finder or terminal (to the main desktop)
                  4. Then there is no way to get to the video usign the app switcher(cmd+tab)(It will take me to orion window), this makes the workfloow very unefficient if you are using the keyboard.

I know there is a short cut to move to the next virtule desktop but just add another app to the picture now when I switch to orion from app switcher it takes me the main virtual desktop and I have to move through 2 or 3 virtual desktops to reach the video virtual desktop.

I know you don't want to add features that no one will use and will increase complexity, but I generally have a lot of tabs and app, the later of which will really benefit from this feature.

I am not the only one and many people dislike the video fullscreen behavious so please add an option.

This user thaught it is bug that is how bad it is https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254714573?sortBy=rank

It is irritating and have to go to chrone to watch videos -

I am not the only one who will benefit from this. I like that orion has a very capable tab switcher and extension support is also nice, I don't think it is ment to do everything like safari does.

Most people will not care to post anything and most people use chrome anyway, they are use to fullscreen videos working the way they work on every browser except safari, so I am certan that this feature is not only useful but is a deal breaker for many.

                  So please add it.

kazi This is the default WebKit behavior and you can post on webkit.org to see if Apple is willing to change it.
