Steps to reproduce:
I'm not really sure how to reproduce this bug—I've not managed to download anything that does not open in a preview window. This is not limited to specific websites or types of downloads.

I have tried using compatibility mode and disabling extensions, but this didn't help.

Expected behavior:
I expected the download to work.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion 0.99.111, macOS 12.2 (21D49), M1 MacBook Air 2020

Image/Video:
N/A—any download fails with status 'Failed'

noc-tae I believe you, just that for all the other Orion users downloads work (including me) so there is obviously something in your system/system settings that is interfering and we do not know what.

Of course. I tried looking through my system before I posted anything, but I couldn't find anything that would interfere with downloads—I didn't mess with my firewall, network settings, or use a VPN.

      It's an incredibly strange bug.

Hey, exactly the same on my side, however I found the solution.

I was never able to download anything, it always failed.
I think the default download folder in the settings is kind of messed up (was Downloads)
Just change this default folder, to a custom folder (I selected Downloads).

        Everything is working afterwards.

tronix117 Thanks for posting that. To clarify you changed folder form Downloads to the same Downloads folder and it started working?

            a year later

@Vlad, Yes, I can confirm that. Going in to settings and selecting "Other..." In the download folder drop-down and then picking the MacOS default download folder solved the problem for me as well.

I have had the exact same problem for a long time. No downloads would work unless selecting the link with right-click context menu and then selecting "Download linked file as ..."

So based on the solution that @tronix117 posted above, which solved the problem for me, it would indeed seem to be problem with the default download folder setting. And I would further hazard a guess that It might be related to some localization issue with the folder name in some non-English language versions of MacOS.

I am myself using a Danish language MacOS version.

              a year later

I have also had this problem but the issue was something in the macOS settings. For some reason, for a few users, the default option for downloads is off. if you toggle the default option by searching downloads in macOS settings, and toggling Orion to accessing the Downloads folder, it allows access to downloads and my browser would no longer show the status "Failed" for my downloads.

              Hope this helps.
              Felix
