Some basic customization of the start page would be nice. The three main settings I would like are:

  1. Number of columns
  2. Size of the icons
  3. Which bookmarks folder is used

3 is available in Safari, and would be needed to bring Orion up to feature parity. 1 & 2 would allow configuring the start page to be more like earlier versions of Safari.

Other users might appreciate these:

  • Setting a background image
  • Choosing whether to use page icons, or a page preview to have it be more like a speed dial

        Vlad Safari never allowed customizing the start page! That was one of the things that I didn't really like about it after coming from more customizable browsers. The only thing it allows doing is picking which bookmarks folder to use for the bookmarks on the start page / favorites page.

            I don't think we can add our own image as a background yet. I would really like this functionality.

              Number of columns is great. Size of icons seems like it would over complicate things.
              Bookmarks folder should just be favorites by default, but you should be able to add even more, perhaps as a reading-list esque list. Like having a stash of books atop a shelf, except they are webpages instead.

              I could certainly live without being able to adjust the size of the icons, but what I'm most interested in is something like the start page for Safari 13, which has larger icons than Safari 14 and 15. I like that their larger size makes them easier to click. But the main thing is being able to set a specific number of columns so I can organize it how I want, with icons in specific positions. It's quite annoying that Safari 14 and up changes the number of columns to fit the width of the page so that you can't rely on things being in a predictable place.

                bribri Every user has different preference and making a setting for every imaginable thing in Orion would

                a) make Orion feel like Vivaldi
                b) take immense amount of time
                c) is not our priority right now

                    And we still don't have costom background pictures to this day... can only choose from some of the default ones

                      Rocky Custm background have been a thing in Orion RC for a while. They will be rolled out in the next update.

                              Yeah, custom numbers of column would be great.

                              In addition to this feedback here is a list of what I miss compared to beloved Infinity Tab extension from Chrome (tried many different one and it's the best one for me in design and functionality)

                              1. Custom layout (must have)
                                Thanks for this you can use each row for some related sites

                              2. Custom icon size (nice to have)

                              3. Custom icons (Should have: sometime site doesn't provides one)

                              4. Links to browser tools (Nice to have)
                                e.g.: bookmarks, extensions, settings
