I would like to have a “Close Tabs to the Right” option in Orion for iOS, as already available in the macOS version.
This feature would allow users to close all tabs positioned to the right of a selected tab at once. It is useful for quickly cleaning up a group of tabs while keeping the selected tab and all tabs to its left open.
This would be particularly useful when browsing through a sequence of links or search results. For example, I might open several links from a search page in new tabs, review them, and then select the last tab I want to keep and close all tabs to its right in one action.
This would not change the existing tab workflow for users who do not use the feature. It would simply add another tab-management action, bringing the iOS version closer to the existing macOS implementation.
How I would use it
The main use case is quickly removing a contiguous group of tabs while keeping the tabs I want to retain.
For example:
- I start with a tab containing a search result or an article.
- I open several links from it in new tabs, creating a sequence of related tabs.
- After reviewing them, I decide which tab should be the last one I keep.
- I select that tab and choose “Close Tabs to the Right.”
- All tabs to its right are closed, while the selected tab and all tabs to its left remain open.
Other examples include:
- Cleaning up research sessions: After researching a topic, close all the tabs that were opened after the useful ones.
- Removing temporary tabs: Keep the main page and useful tabs while quickly removing a group of temporary tabs.
- Managing many tabs: Instead of closing tabs individually, remove an entire section of tabs with one action.
- Reorganizing after browsing: Keep a particular point in the tab sequence and discard everything opened after it.
Integration with existing tab management
Orion already provides this functionality on macOS, so I would expect the iOS implementation to behave consistently with the macOS version.
The action could be exposed through the existing tab context menu, for example:
Long-press a tab → Close Tabs to the Right
This would make it a natural extension of the existing tab-management actions rather than introducing a new workflow.
It would also be useful to have the same behavior regarding confirmation dialogs, pinned tabs, and other tab-management rules as the macOS implementation, so that the behavior is predictable across platforms.
Overall, I would mainly like the iOS version to achieve feature parity with the existing macOS implementation for this tab-management operation.
