Orion becomes unresponsive when opening fresh tab

When I go to my tab list and open a new tab, with the newest version on iOS, the keyboard never comes up to type in a URL or search, and the app seems unrecoverable. Opening new tabs from existing ones is fine, just not making fresh tabs. It definitely started in the last week.

It may matter that I have 1,153 tabs open, but closing a few of them here and there has not solved the problem. Doesn’t happen in Safari, but that also limits you to 500 tabs per group.

I can open a new tab, be prompted with the keyboard, and continue interacting with the app.

iOS 26.5.2 and Orion 1.5.0 (5) (WebKit 8624.2.5.10.8)

Pressing the new tab button results in this screen, and the app is totally frozen until killed.

Still happens on 1.5.1 (1) (WebKit 8624.2.5.10.8). Sometimes when swiping up from the bottom, not low enough to suspend the app, it will take me back to the tab list. Sometimes it looks like this as well, with no address bar.

I’m not sure why, but this seems to have resolved itself. No versions have changed, and I have more tabs open now than before. Maybe it could be a system ad blocker like Wipr, but I don’t want to throw them under the bus. Very odd.

There is a minor fix coming in the next release that should help improve a bit the situation.
Please let us know if you notice anything changing in the next month or so?

@kanisama Do you have the "Show Keyboard on New Tab" setting activated (in Settings -> Tabs)? I also have this issue, but only when this setting is activated.

clemcloum yes! Turning that off does seem to “fix” it. Perhaps that is a key to solving it.

I noticed this bug mentioned in the release notes for the latest version, but it is unfortunately still occurring for me on 1.5.2 (4) (WebKit 8624.4.5.10.5). I even closed about 400 tabs to get down to ₈₅₀ in case it was related to that, but it was no help thus far.

Same here, it still occurs in version 1.5.2.

I still can't reproduce this issue on my test device.
clemcloum or kanisama do you have good reproduction steps?
And perhaps could you tell me the values of the following settings?

Tab: grid or sidebar?
Show Keyboard on New Tab?
Address bar location (top or bottom)?
Any other relevant settings you can think of?

Tabs: Sidebar
Show keyboard on New Tab: True
Address bar location: Bottom

According to my tests, changing only one of these settings removes the bug.

My iPhone is on iOS 27 Beta 3.
