Improve “open links” setting

Hi jeffdaley thanks for taking the time to write this ticket.

I agree it's a bit confusing, the difference is more about whether you keep your flow while reading a page an opening new ones in the background, or if you jump straight to it.

"In New Tab" = link opens and jumps you to it.
"In Background" = link opens behind so you keep reading your current page.

How would you phrase it to make it less confusing?

Opening in background still opens a new tab. Even if you’re modeling after Safari, it’s still ambiguous.

I'd probably include the concept of "New tab" somewhere in the setting title. "Open links" makes me think of all links, not just those I'm choosing to open in a new tab.

Some ideas:

New tab behavior

Open in background
Open in foreground

When opening new tabs...

Keep current tab active
Switch to new tab

Switch to new tabs automatically
