Orion advertises itself as blocking ads out of the box, but I’ve found this is not working adequately. I’m reporting it as a bug because the experience means that Orion is strictly worse than Mobile Safari, when using Safari with Wipr (an extension that doesn’t work outside of Safari, because Safari extensions.)
Here is a very simple example site which shows loads of ads in mobile Orion: https://www.xda-developers.com/ditched-arc-browser-replacement-better/
I know that there is some kind of balance to strike, but in my experience, Orion is not finding that balance out of the box on iOS. I can’t use a browser that shows this many ads within minutes of downloading it.
Beyond that, enough sites in Orion are still buggier than they are in safari despite not blocking as much stuff. For example, take a look at https://www.skyscrapercity.com/forums/seattle.879/. On Orion, the page becomes unresponsive very quickly (and even goes blank after switching to a different app), and while ads are blocked, there are huge blank spots all over the page. Compare to Safari with Wipr, and it’s a night & day difference.
Please figure out how to incorporate actually good adblockers like Wipr out of the box! This is a non-negotiable aspect of browsers for me. In its current state, I would not be able to tell a friend that Orion does what it advertises and blocks ads out of the box. The Adblock experience is extremely subpar compared to what you can get even on iOS.
