Running 1.4.19 on iPad Pro 12.9. I have an attached keyboard. I have run into several strange quirks with tab handling in Orion. I have Open Links set to “New Tab” right now. “Background” does similar things though.
Here’s what I have observed…
In search Engines (I use Duck Duck Go), when clicking on a link, it opens in the background in a new tab.
In my homelab, I run a Grafana instance. I see the same behavior. I click on a link and it opens in a new tab in the background.
The most egregious problem is on this forum website, I tried to register as a new user and sign-in with Apple. It opened the oauth workflow in a new window. I switched there. Signed in with Apple. It opened a new tab. I switched there. It tried to Sign in with Apple. Repeated again and again and again. I finally gave up.
Unfortunately, It’s inconsistent between sites, but when there are links that should naturally open in the same tab many times I find the link that I clicked opened in a new tab in the tab bar.
I had expected tab flow to work like other browsers. Unfortunately the options for “Tabs” in settings either aren’t working or aren’t clear what they are supposed to do. Regardless, since I can create the behavior with “Background” or “New Tab”, it seems like there is a bug somewhere.
What I expect is a setting to make Orion behave similar to Safari. If I click a link, it opens in the same page — unless the web link is explicitly coded to open in a new tab. If that’s the case, the behavior described in the setting is what should occur (either open in a new tab immediately, or open in the background)
