Some improvement suggestions for the Spanish locale under macOS:
- Fully translate all menu items, dialog box texts, etc. As an example:
Editar (Spanish) > Spelling & Grammar (English). Another example is the Overflow menu explainer text in Personalise toolbar which is in English while its entries are translated (btw this pop-up also does not close when hitting ESC as it does on all other apps I’ve checked).
- Do not use title case capitalisation in menu items. As an example,
Archivo > Cerrar Todas Las Pestañas should read Cerrar todas las pestañas.
- Use Apple standards for menu names, e.g.
Edición instead of Editar, Desarrollo instead of Desarrollar (examples taken from Safari). Same for settings, e.g. Navegación as tab header instead of Navegando.
All suggestions are obvious user experience improvements:
- No untranslated items should appear anywhere, ever. Confuses users some of whom may not even speak English.
- Title case is pretty much English-only. Spanish (and most other languages) do not use this. Title case makes reading the menu items unnecessarily difficult. Users are not used to seeing this.
- Improves coherence across ecosystem apps and, as a consequence, user acceptance. Reduces uncertainty and doubt.
