The scrollbar in the vertical tabs sidebar is both visually and in behaviour quite different from a standard Mac scrollbar, including the scrollbar for other sidebar. The bookmarks sidebar for example has a normally behaving scrollbar.
To reproduce, use vertical tabs and open enough tabs to trigger the appearance of the vertical scrollbar. I currently have 43 tabs in my list.
If relevant, I have the Show scroll bars setting set to Always in MacOS Settings -> Appearance.
These screenshots show the difference between the vertical tabs sidebar which has a very narrow scrollbar, and the bookmarks sidebar which has a normal width scrollbar.
The behaviour of the vertical tabs sidebar when trying to drag the thumb is also unusual. When grabbed with the mouse, the thumb does not move directly with the mouse pointer, but instead moves proportionally to the distance that the mouse pointer moves moves. I'll describe a few scenarios for how dragging currently behaves.
- if the thumb is at the top, to get to the bottom tab, I need to grab the thumb at the top and drag all the way down to the bottom of the scrollbar. By the time I scroll all the way to the bottom tab, the mouse will have reached the bottom of the entire scrollbar, and will now be positioned at the bottom of the thumb.
- if the thumb is at the top and I grab the thumb near the middle, I cannot scroll all the way to the bottom because I leave the window and run into the edge of my screen preventing the mouse pointer from moving further. (unless I leave a large amount of space between the Orion window and the bottom of my screen)
- if the thumb is already partially moved down, and I grab it anywhere, the thumb jumps back up some distance (but usually not all the way) to the top, making dragging it in multiple stages impossible.
This behaviour is mostly non-problematic when using a scroll wheel or two-finger swipe on a trackpad to scroll, but my primary input method (a Wacom tablet & pen) doesn't offer a convenient scroll method.
The vertical tabs sidebar should have a normal scrollbar with normal behaviour, just like the bookmarks sidebar.
