Update 2026-05-04 In the original submission, I had the facts backwards (menu item only active in a window with multiple tabs). I just edited the description to fix that.
The menu command for un-/checking the View > Always Show Tab Bar option is only active when the front-most window contains a single tab. If a window only contains multiple tabs, the menu option is inactive.
I find that confusing, because toggling that option might require extra interactions just to toggle it (find a window with only a single tab, or open a new one, change the setting, and then navigate back). Unless there's a hard reason to deactivate this menu that I'm not aware of โย in which case I kindly request that you share the (interaction designer's) rationale with me. ๐
The View > Always Show Tab Bar is active ("enabled") at any time.
