What does your feature entail? What is it for?
When using the "Translate" function in the Kagi translate app in IOS, there is a pretty blunt limit to the amount of time you can record something (seemingly about 1-2 minutes). This works fine for most basic use, but there are occasions in my life where longer term translations (7+ min) are needed. One such occasion was during a reading of a short story. During the reading, I was attempting to use the voice recording mode to translate it, but every 1-2 mins, it would abruptly cut off the recording, and I'd need to fidget with my phone to restart the recording; during which time I could lose important context in the story.
Perhaps in an ideal world, there is a more "live transcribe" type feature, however this could be a ton of work, or hard to achieve UX wise.
How will it affect existing workflows or user experience?
I don't see this directly negatively affecting any other use case, with an edge case of if someone accidentally leaves their phone recording, it would take longer to automatically stop. I'm not sure I've properly weighed the severity of this problem, and it may be a larger deal than I'm considering.
What are the exact ways that you see a user using your proposed feature?
Basically, see above. Songs, Stories, Small Presentation; they all have nuances and emotion that don't get extracted well in traditional algorithmic translation. So longer recording windows would allow me to capture the full detail of a story, or perhaps capture nuances in a song.
Please go into as much detail as possible, and provide examples of how other browsers/apps implement this feature, if applicable.
I'm sure some kind of example exists in the wild, but I've not found one.
If your feature suggestion adds on to an existing feature, how would it work into it to extend its usefulness?
To be honest my idea is perhaps naive; and I sense I may be trying to drive a nail with a screwdriver. However the conversation tool is a non-starter as it automatically plays back the translated text at the end; which in the context of whats going on, is rude or undignified (it might suffer from the same limits as the normal recording flow, but I'm not sure).
