This feature would add an option on iPad to have the toolbar appear as an overlay when scrolling up, instead of moving the page content down. It’s meant to make the browsing experience smoother and less distracting, since the current behavior shifts the whole page when the toolbar reappears. Users who prefer the existing behavior could keep it as is, so this option would not affect current workflows or layouts.
This feature would add an option on iPad for the “hide toolbar on scroll” setting so that, when the user scrolls up to reveal the toolbar, it appears as an overlay instead of pushing the page content down. In practice, a user might be reading a long article in full-screen mode, then slightly scroll up to check the URL, tabs, or open a new tab; with this option enabled, the content would stay fixed in place while the toolbar briefly appears on top, then hides again when they resume scrolling down. This reduces visual jumpiness and makes it easier to keep your place on the page, especially when reading or scanning dense text. I would be happy for this to become the default behavior, but having it as a toggle alongside the current behavior would also be fine so users can choose what feels best for them.
