When using Standard/Compact Tabs, we already have a sidebar. However, for users like me this sidebar is pointless as I don't use Tab groups. Tab groups is a Safari only feature and basically no one I know uses it including hardcore apple ecosystem adherents. Chrome/Edge/Firefox don't really integrate or enforce tab grouping so agressively, so the idea is unlikely to take off. Anyway, I digress.
When using Standard/Compact Tabs, insted of a sidebar with Tab Groups, I am suggesting we allow users to choose to have the Vertical Tabs sidebar. This is far more useful for users like me.
Basically I want to use Vertical Tabs and Standard/Compact Tabs at the same time. Sometimes I have 50 tabs open and would really appreciate a vertical tab list. Sometimes I have just 2 tabs and then Vertical Tabs is either too slow(I have to wait for it to auto show and then auto hide) or takes up permanent screen real estate(persistent vertical tabs).
Also, if you use keyboard shortcuts for Tab Switching, Select Previous Tab or Select Next Tab, then it is really nice to know the names of the adjoining tabs as shown in Standard/Compact Tabs when using the shortcuts even if you prefer Vertical Tabs otherwise.
