Can't close tabs

Today Orion started removing the X on the tab to close it— sometimes the leftmost tab is the only one with an X, and sometimes all of them are affected. Seemingly randomly the X returns for a split second while hovering over the tab and then disappears. Closing the browser helps initially but then the problem returns. The only extension running is 1Password. I am able to switch tabs or drag them out to a new window. The right-click menu works but lacks other options besides "Close tabs to the right" when affected, and sporadically the X AND the right click option to "Close tab" returns.

When mousing over the tab and X should appear that enables me to close the tab.

ramblinguist Thank you for reporting this issue.

From my end, I am not reproducing this issue. We have made a number of UI-related fixes since Version 1.0.0--do you still reproduce this on the latest version of Orion, 1.0.3? If you still do reproduce the issue, are there any specific steps to get to this state, and can you still close the selected tab with File menu -> Close Tab?

I am reproducing this issue on

Orion Version 1.0.3 (142), WebKit 624.1.2.19.2
Build date January 17, 2026
MacBook Pro (macOS Sequoia 15.7.3 build 24G419).

Here is a video showing the issue. Ths issue persists even after completely closing (but not quitting) all Orion windows. Cmd+W still works for closing tabs/windows, though.

Please let me know what other information I can provide.

Hi @ramblinguist @axyklee thank you for reporting this and apologies for ths ieeus. Can you tell me how / when this issue starts happening?

Does it happen only in standard mode? (Is compact mode affected?)
Is there any specific trigger that makes it start happening?
How frequent is it?
Can you try without any extensions if it still gets reproduced?

Same issue here. Noting of note seems to trigger it, its random and often. I don't ever use compact mode so not sure about that. 1 Password is the only extension I have too. Also the browser often stops responding in as much as you cant click on certaine things. As an example trying to clear the basket on waterproof-cases.co.uk. I had not issues on this site with either Firefox or Safari
