Gmail quick actions delayed

In Gmail, with no split pane, quick-action icons on the right side of each email (archive, delete, mark as read, snooze) do not appear instantaneously, and in fact are delayed such that if one is deleting emails one after another, one must pause to wait for the icons to appear. If one does not pause, then one opens the email by mistake. This behavior does not occur in Chrome,.

The quick-action icons should appear instantaneously to allow rapid user action.

I need to amend the above message. The icons reappear after the cursor is moved. One should not have to move one's cursor in order to have the icons reappear. They should reappear as soon as the deleted email goes away and the next email moves into place. They do not.
