I’ve recently made the switch from Safari, and I’m loving the performance and focus on native macOS integration. In the past I've really struggled with Safari due to performance issues on some websites, but also because of some UI/UX issues. I’ve found the bookmark organization workflow to be unexpectedly clunky, especially when compared to browsers like Chrome or Firefox. Here are a few areas where I (and likely others) could benefit from improvements:
- Ability to select multiple bookmarks at once for bulk deletion or moving.
- Reordering bookmarks by dragging is inconsistent and often feels buggy (especially in long folders).
- Add right-click options to sort bookmarks alphabetically, by date added, or manually. (Folder-specific sorting would be helpful too.)
- Ability to filter search results by tags, folders, or URL domain would speed up cleanup work.
In short: cleaning up and organizing bookmarks currently feels a bit tedious in Orion, which is a shame because the rest of the browser is incredibly polished. I think even small UX enhancements here would make a big difference.
Thanks again for your work on Orion, I’m excited to keep using it and supporting its growth!
- Selecting many bookmarks at once:
Example: You open a big folder “Research” with 150 links, many of them outdated. You want to quickly delete 40 links, move 30 to a new folder “Archive 2025”, and maybe tag 20 as “Read‑later.” With bulk‑select (shift‑click, ctrl/⌘‑click, or via “Select all”), you can mark them, then choose “delete” / “move to folder” / “edit tags” all in one go.
- Cleaning up after a big purge: After months of bookmarking, user runs a regular cleanup rhythm: open root folder, then select all, after that select sort by date added, then identify old/unvisited links and finally you can bulk delete or archive.
- Quick reorganization after browser migration: When importing bookmarks from another browser or syncing across devices, user receives a messy flat list; bulk‑select + move speeds up re‑structuring.
Other browsers/apps doing this:
- Mozilla Firefox: Supports shift‑click/select‑all in its Library → Bookmarks, and you can cut/copy/paste or delete in bulk. Also, when you drag into a nested folder, it expands. As for sorting with Firefox, in the Library, then View menu, then “Sort by Name / Added Date / Last Visited.”
- Google Chrome: In the Bookmark Manager (chrome://bookmarks), you can select multiple items (Ctrl/⌘‑click / Shift‑click) and delete or cut/paste. Similiar to Firefox, when you drag into a nested folder, it expands automatically if hovered. Not to mention you can right click, and sort by name.
