Horizontal tab advancing like in Safari for users with a lot of tabs

In Safari on Sonoma I can click next to the far left or far right of the tab bar and advance to the next bunch of tabs in either direction without having to physically scroll that way. This is a big thing for me given I have a lot of tabs open for different tab groups for games, and the tab switcher isn't what I'm personally looking for as I'd prefer to have a similar experience to Safari. Firefox has an arrow button next to the tabs on both sides to do the same thing.

Just gives the user another option to switch tabs faster without needing to press any keys on the keyboard, and gives more accessibility options as well. Would bring it very close to Safari for feature parity for users that use Safari as their mani browser.

When I open more tabs than fit in the tab bar (horizontally), tabs move out of view on the right with no UI to reach them. I must be missing something.

In this screenshot I have more tabs open than fit horizontally in the bar, and to reach those, I have to close visible tabs.

Below is a screenshot of how firefox handles this. A button appears with an arrow to the right, which, when clicked moves to the right.

I expect some UI element to move the tab bar, like the arrow in Firefox.

Hey @pseudonym, thanks for reaching out!

To see the offscreen tabs, you can hover your mouse over the tab bar and scroll using your mouse wheel (if you are using a mouse). If you are using a mac trackpad, you can 2 finger scroll horizontally.

If you want a keyboard shortcut, Ctrl + Tab cycles to the next tab and Ctrl + Shift + Tab cycles to the previous tab. (this will also go next / previous to the offscreen tabs as well).

Thanks for the quick response. Do I understand correctly that this is by design? I think it would be really helpful to have an arrow to click. Is it indicated anywhere when more tabs are open but hidden from view?

The scrolling tabs are indeed by design, yes. It isn't explicitly indicated anywhere when there are more tabs open, but you can see a half cut-off tab in the scroll view indicating that there's more stuff. Also when there are scrollable tabs and you select a tab that should have been off screen, it sticks to the edge of the scroll view instead of going off screen.

But I do agree, an arrow to click would be helpful. I'll merge your request with the other post you helpfully shared so that we can consolidate this and consider the request. Not promising anything yet, but I'll discuss this idea with the team and if we get the green flag, we'll go ahead implement this.
