When playing a video within WhatsApp Web on the Orion browser, exiting the video player does not reliably stop the audio stream. The video's audio continues to play in the background, even when the video is no longer visible on screen. This persistent audio cannot be stopped by replaying and closing the video again.
Unfortunately, I cannot reliably reproduce this error on demand, but it occurs intermittently during regular use of WhatsApp Web.
How It Happened (Steps Taken)
Navigate to WhatsApp Web in the Orion browser.
- Open a chat containing a video.
- Click to play the video in the built-in video player.
- Exit the video player (e.g., by clicking the back/close button or pressing Esc).
- The visual video element closes, but the audio continues to play indefinitely.
Current Workarounds
The only methods found to stop the audio are:
Closing the WhatsApp Web tab entirely or Reloading the WhatsApp Web tab (F5 or Ctrl/Cmd + R).
When the user closes the video player on WhatsApp Web, the associated audio stream should immediately stop playing. Alternatively, replaying the video and then closing it should terminate the audio stream.
